A Bathroom Sink Vanity Can Add Sophisticated Style

A bathroom sink vanity used to be a fairly plain piece of cabinetry with doors underneath and perhaps a set of drawers for storage on one side - a household furnishing that no one really paid any attention to. That has changed. Today’s homeowners are using a number of items to design a one of a kind and creative bathroom sink vanity.

Interestingly enough, one current bathroom trend is to not have a bathroom sink vanity at all. Instead, old-fashioned pedestal sinks are making a comeback. These sinks are terrific ideas for small bathrooms that require no storage - like a powder room. And, depending on the style and fixtures chosen, pedestal sinks are easily at home in a vintage, traditional or modern-style rooms.

Homeowners are also choosing to transform an old dresser into a bathroom sink vanity. If you have a cherished dresser or favorite piece of furniture, this is a unique way of integrating it into a twenty-first century home. Or, if you don’t have the perfect piece already, you can purchase a piece of unfinished wood furniture and custom-paint it in a color that matches your bathroom’s décor, or faux finish it for a truly unique look. And, given the current popularity of an untraditional bathroom sink vanity, some cabinet companies are even designing bathroom sink vanities to look like old pieces of furniture that have been transformed.

And yet another design trend that is becoming more popular for those who like a minimalist look - and have no children - is simply forgoing a traditional bathroom sink vanity altogether and installing clean, simple shelves. To accommodate a sink, they place it on a simple shelf made out of a number of materials. And for storage, a second shelf underneath often is filled with nicely folded bathroom towels and neatly set out toiletries.

Got the perfect piece of furniture to convert into a bathroom sink vanity? Contact a plumber and ask that they install a sink in it. Keep in mind if you choose a bowl-type of sink that sits on top of the cabinet, a wall-mounted faucet will be needed. Or, you can pick a sink that sits almost completely into the top of your new bathroom sink vanity, whereby you can install a counter-mounted sink.

If you don’t already have a dresser or other piece of furniture, make note of the space available in your bathroom and how much space your favorite sink requires – including the faucet – and start shopping. Stores like Ikea offer inexpensive furniture items whereas import shops like Cost-Plus and Pier 1 often have untraditional styles that will add instant character to any room. Of course, another option is to go to the closest home improvement or cabinet showroom and order an all in one bathroom sink vanity solution.

Remember, your house is a reflection of you – it is your style that makes it your home.
