Although not every bathroom shower and tub has shower doors, many do. With this, you can be sure any water from the shower stays inside, not dripping or spraying outside onto the floor. Depending on your own preference, as well as the design of your shower or tub, you may also have a shower curtain. The other option is to use just a shower curtain, which is an affordable solution. However, unlike shower doors, curtains are hard to clean and they will eventually wear out. In addition, shower curtains do not always provide a good enough seal to keep water out, which could then cause damage to the walls and floors.
The best solution in most cases is to use shower doors. With this, you will have your choice of many different configurations, materials, styles, and sizes. In other words, regardless of the type of shower or tub you have, a number of great choices exist. For instance, you can choose from many shower doors such as a bypass or sliding door, swinging door, or a combination of both, which is called a bi-fold door. You will even find options for shower doors for people with disabilities. In this case, for a door to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act, the shower door would not have a bottom track, providing free access in and out of the tub or shower. Then, for a person who needs to gain access with a wheelchair, a heave-duty style shower door works exceptionally well. In either case, the person has the ability to maintain some dignity while still having a safe, convenient solution. Other types of doors include sliding shower doors, also called bypass doors. These doors are the most common, and are sold in two or three sections. The benefit here is that the sliding door uses very little space. By gliding on a track at the top and bottom, the doors simply slide back and forth. The result is a nice looking door that is easy to clean. The only real downfall to this type of shower door is that on occasion, the track can get dirty, which is difficult to clean. In addition, the rollers can eventually wear out, at which time they would need to be replaced. Next are bi-fold shower doors, also referred to as curved doors. If you have a narrow opening to your tub, shower, or have a configuration whereby a large sheet of glass to swing open and shut is not possible, the bi-fold is a great solution. The bi-fold door is made to open and close much like an accordion, thus working well with small spaces. Keep in mind that bi-fold shower doors also have a few disadvantages. For one, they ride on a track. However, because of the way in which the door opens and closes, they can become twisted or stuck. The other disadvantage is that the bi-fold track is very hard to keep clean. Finally, there are swinging shower doors, which come in a number of widths from 36 to 48 inches. In most cases, this type of door when used for covering a larger area would be used along with one or two fixed panels. For a larger bathroom, this type of shower door adds a touch of sophistication and charm. Typically, these doors would be hinged, which can be single or double-action. Just remember that the swinging type shower doors made with a single hinge are required to open outwards to a person on the inside would not become trapped should he or she become ill or injured in any way.
