Shower Door: Updating Your Old Shower Door

If you are looking at your bathroom in dismay, but simply do not have the budget needed for a complete remodel, consider doing small things like updating your old shower door. This item is one of the easiest fixes that will breathe new life into your bathroom without breaking the bank. Furthermore, an old, broken, or extremely dirty glass door can make any room look worse than it actually is. There are several options you have in updating your tired old shower door, ranging from the super cheap to the modestly expensive.

· Option 1: Clean up a dirty shower door. Grab a bottle of extra strength bathroom cleaner that can cut grime, soap scum, mold, mildew, and whatever else is living on your glass door and start scrubbing. Although it seems to be the simplest plan of action, a thorough cleaning of the door frame, glass, and track can make an old door look like a million bucks. While you are cleaning, open up that shower door and take a peek into the shower to see if it needs some TLC as well.

· Option 2: Revamp your shower door. Let your imagination run wild in this option and see your current door as something that could only look better and not worse. If you mess up your decoration process, look to options number three and four, which you would probably have to do anyway with the current state of your door. Instead glue, epoxy, paint, decoupage, and create unique patterns on a shower door that is on its last legs.

· Option 3: Take down the old shower door and replace it with a less expensive shower curtain. This option may not work for everyone, but generally speaking a shower curtain and rod is a great deal less expensive than replacing the door. Keep in mind that the track should be completely removed unless you want your update to look half finished. While you are buying a shower curtain rod, swing by the putty aisle and pick up something for patching those holes. If you find you simply cannot live without your shower door, the next step is replacement.

· Option 4: Replace the shower door with a new version of the same design. To save cash, see if the track you already have installed will work with a new door. Also, the general rule of thumb when it comes to shower glass is the more extravagant, the more expensive. The cheapest is still the old standby, clear glass or its slightly more expensive cousin, frosted glass. Although your budget may be a primary concern, do not skimp on the quality of glass. Ensure the glass in your shower door is tempered to prevent any accidents.
