Kids Tub: Organize Your Kids Tub

One of the most accident prone places in the home is the bathtub, and given all the toys and items littering a kids tub, that accident chance skyrockets.  Between the floating blocks, swimming fishes, army men, fashion dolls, and everything else that gets dumped into a child’s bathwater, there are tripping elements everywhere.  To keep your kids safe, create an organization system to use when in and out of the bath to ensure your kids tub is clutter free.

For families with more than one child, invest in different storage bins that can either go in, on, or near their kids tub.  Since most bath time toys are wet and capable of molding or mildewing quickly on the plastic, ditch those plastic storage bins in exchange for mesh bags or nets that will allow the toys to dry quickly.  Provide different colors for each child or print the child’s name so that he or she knows which sack holds the favorite toys that are staples in the kids tub.

Attach a suction cup higher up in the kids tub to hang the mesh bag after bath time is complete.  This hanging system will allow the toys and the bag to drip dry safely in the bath tub and be out of the way of other bathers or individuals who are taking a shower.  There are many items on the market that are designed specifically for use in the shower, but an inexpensive mesh bag and a simple suction cup can organize your kids tub in seconds for a fraction of the price.

Once you have developed a general organizational system for your kids tub, consider limiting the number of toys allowed in at any given time.  Just like pools close when they become overcrowded, let your child select one or two toys to keep him or her entertained while in the bath.  A tub full of toys not only provides an accident hazard, but also can distract the child from the task at hand—bathing.  Also, if the child expects to play with these toys outside of the kids tub, they may be too wet to play with unless in a bath environment.

Finally, choose toys and games that are deemed appropriate in a kids tub.  There are many gel-like designs on the market that stick to tile and fiberglass surrounds temporarily.  Some of these are even of your favorite games, including checkers and tic tac toe.  Furthermore, look to unique items like bath foam that your child can shape into different creatures while in the bath.  Finally, choose fun sponges or washcloths that can replace traditional bath time toys that can easily clutter your kids tub while still serving a great purpose.
