Kids Bath Time - Making It Fun

As adults, we understand how wonderful a warm bath can be but when it comes to kids bath time, for some this is a frustrating and scary time.  If you have a child who hates getting into the bathtub, you will discover that by making the experience fun, they can overcome the problem of anxiety or fear.  The best option for making kids bath time fun is to start when the child is young.  For this, once your baby becomes a toddler and starts to show some signs of concern, get into the tub with him or her.  By playing together, splashing and laughing, your child will feel more at ease.

Kids bath time can also be used to teach your child that taking a bath alone is just as fun.  The goal here is to make sure your child feels safe and secure, which is the number one reason for the anxiety or fear in the first place.  Therefore, purchase a good bath ring in which the child sits.  As he moves around in the tub splashing and playing, he will soon realize that the ring keeps him secure.  Soon, your kids bath time will no longer be dreaded but a time in which he looks forward.

Kids bath time has to be fun, which is why several bath toys are essential.  To keep your child from becoming bored, we recommend you purchase about 10 inexpensive but safe toys suitable for your kids bath time.  Then, place three or four in the tub one night, switching them out with a few a new ones the following night.  By rotating the toys, he will be intrigued with so many choices.  For the older child, you might think about special paints designed specifically for bath time.  These paints can be used to write on the tile or tub without causing any damage or leaving behind any color.  Kids love these paints, making them excited about getting into the tub.

You will also find a number of unique products on the market today created specifically to make kids bath time fun.  For instance, you can now find products that change the color of the water.  You can just imagine the squeal of delight as your child heads to the tub only to discover it is blue, green, or purple.  Something so simple can transform a negative bath into something positive.  The only word of advice when it comes to products and kids bath time is that small children should never be placed in a bubble bath.  Commercial products are notorious for causing yeast infections so avoid this at all costs.

We want to close with discussing the most important aspect of kids bath time – safety.  Unfortunately, children die unnecessarily every year because of bath water.  What many parents fail to realize is that a child can easily drown in just an inch of water and quickly.  Therefore, before placing your child in the tub, it is imperative that certain safety measures be in place.  If you have a mobile child, especially a curious toddler, make sure any electrical appliances such as hair dryer, curling iron, and so on, are unplugged and out of reach.  One accidental pull of the item into the bathtub could be fatal.  However, the number one safety rule for kids bath time is never to leave the child alone, not even for five seconds – if the phone rings, let it ring and if someone comes to the door and you have to answer it, wrap the child in a towel, taking him with you.
