Bathroom remodels are commonly seen, as more and more people decide to stay put and enhance their existing home. With the real estate market slow right now, it is a great time to invest some money and time into making your home more comfortable and more to your liking. The nice thing about bathroom remodels is that if you decide to stay put for a while, you could invest significant money in the change but if not, you can still transform the bathroom without breaking the bank.
Even if you plan to stay in your home for several years before selling, when you go through bathroom remodels, you want to keep certain things in mind. For instance, going with ceramic tile floor in a neutral color and/or pattern, choosing lighting that will eliminate problems with shadows, adding a nice vanity with coordinating fixtures, or putting in a Jacuzzi tub are all things you and your family would enjoy. However, these improvements are also things that would build value to your home when and if you want to sell some day.
Now, bathroom remodels that allow you to put some of your own personality into the room but also aspects that could be changed by the new owner without much effort or expense would include wall paint color, new light fixtures, and accessories. In this case, to bring a pop of color into the room against the neutral flooring and fixtures, choose something bright or warm. Then, consider over vanity lights or even something a little different in the form of pendant lighting, which is beautiful. However, if new owners are not crazy about the pendants, you could take them with you, replacing them with something affordable the new owner prefers.
In other words, even if staying in your home for years, bathroom remodels need to be a little mix of current and future homeowners. Remember, if you were to go with cream-colored walls, neutral flooring, ivory bath fixtures, and gold toned lighting, you can bring character and color into the room through accessories. For instance, a brightly colored floor rub, basket by the sink with rolled washcloths, scented candles in beautiful holders, and artwork are all ways to incorporate color without making a permanent commitment.
To get started with bathroom remodels, we recommend you look at the size and configuration of the room so you can be realistic about the possible changes. Then, in addition to floor space for storage, look up. You might e able to add some built-in cabinets, add a freestanding tower, or put up shelving. You also need to consider the way in which your bathroom is used. As an example, if you and a spouse are the only two people in the house but you share the bathroom, then you want a double sink if possible, making morning time more efficient. If the bathroom is a child’s room, then consider height, sharp corners, outlet placement, and so on. With a little planning, all bathroom remodels should be highly successful.
