Bathroom Decor Should be About Your Style

Is your bathroom décor hopelessly out of date? Did you inherit a bathroom from your home’s previous owner straight out of the 1970s? If so there are a number of bathroom decor ideas that you can use to make sure that your style shines through their drab taste.

If your budget allows, consider replacing your bathroom suite with a new toilet and sink if the current ones don’t match your style. You bathroom decor could also incorporate a new bathtub surround, perhaps one created from tile in a mosaic pattern.

Other bathroom décor recommendations that are worth considering are paint and wallpaper. Either are relatively inexpensive ways to transform the look of a bathroom. Wallpaper is an especially great bathroom decor solution if your walls are uneven and damaged, since these flaws would still be visible if you repainted the space. And, wallpaper today comes in very simple styles that are designed to mimic the look of a cleanly painted wall.

Changing the flooring is also an option when considering a new bathroom décor. While changing flooring can be expensive, since bathrooms tend to have very small square footage, it generally isn’t a budget buster. Consider retiling the floor, laying wood or even simply staining the concrete under floor with a dye purchased from your local home improvement store to instantly change your bathroom décor.

Once you have completed the major bathroom updates, don’t forget about the accents. Towels, artwork, shower curtains and more are all important bathroom décor components that pull a look together. Great one-stop shops for these pieces are home stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond or Linens N Things, as they sell everything from towels to framed art to soap dispensers. Target also has introduced a number of new designer looks in their home and bathroom décor sections that are still priced moderately.

If you are not sure what bathroom decor makes sense for you, or even how to pull off a look, head to your nearest bookstore and spend some time reading through their design magazines and decorating books. These are great sources for generating ideas, and if you find the perfect look, buy the magazine and/or book. Then, take the page to your local design store and ask to see the materials that are in the picture(s) that fit your budget.

Another option for generating bathroom décor recommendations is touring your local bathroom design showroom. Take note of what appeals to you, and what doesn’t. This will help you identify a general style. Just be sure to tell the salesperson what your budget is, so that you are looking at designs that are practical for you.

Once your bathroom décor has been selected, have fun! Because a house isn’t a home until it reflects you.
